About WAO Early Learning

Locally led early learning, connected by shared care.

WAO Early Learning is a family of three locally led centres in St Ives, Balgowlah and Bombala. Each centre keeps its own identity and community relationships while sharing a clear commitment: children first, strong educators, quality before growth and genuine partnership with families.

Since 2018, we have focused on children's wellbeing and overall development through warm relationships, purposeful play and learning that families can see and understand.

Our Story

From Kelvin Road to three local communities.

2018WAO began on Kelvin Road in St Ives and took over Kelvin Kindergarten. The Kelvin Kindergarten name reflects those original roots.
2023Kelvin Kindergarten moved to its current home at 261 Mona Vale Road, St Ives. The same year, Balgowlah Early Learning opened, and our Bombala centre—now Platypus Country Early Learning—also opened.
TodayThree distinct local communities learn from one another while staying grounded in their own families, teams and places.

What Guides Us

Children first. Team first. Quality first.

Children First

We begin with each child's safety, wellbeing, relationships, interests and development. Children are known as individuals, not treated as a program.

Team First

Strong educators create secure relationships and meaningful learning. We support teams to reflect, communicate and keep improving together.

Quality Before Growth

Growth matters only when care, learning quality and each centre's local identity remain strong.

CARES

A clearer view of the whole child.

CARES helps educators and families see more than a list of activities. It brings together children's developing strengths, where learning happens and the evidence that shows progress over time.

CCapabilitiesThe skills, dispositions and strengths each child is developing.
AAreasWhere learning takes place across rooms, routines and play.
RRecordsObservations and documentation gathered over time.
EEvidence of LearningExamples that show progress, meaning and possible next steps.
SSignature Room IdentityHow each room shapes learning for its age group and community.

DOSE

Making learning visible and useful.

At KK and BEL, DOSE supports educators to make learning easier for families to see and discuss. It turns documentation into a practical conversation about each child's interests, progress and next steps.

DDisplayShare learning in a clear, family-friendly format.
OObserveNotice children's interests, thinking and development.
SSpeakUse the display to prompt conversations with children and families.
EEvidenceConnect the story to real examples of learning and progress.
